My best friend moved away today. Delighted for his new adventure, but my heart is empty now. And it hurts a whole heck of a lot.
Per my high school year book —“Most likely to beat all odds: Amy Hornbeck”.
Aaaaand, BOOM. Did it again. Today I celebrated 36 years of living with #CysticFibrosis.
A couple of my birthday presents. They know me so well! 😊😊😊 The bouquet in the background is what I caught recently at the BFF’s wedding :)

Look who came to visit meeee!!! This is Paul and Rebecca, and their two adorable kids, Emma & Jacobe (far right). I met them 13 years ago in China, and we instantly bonded. I was living over there at the time, and Paul & Rebecca (just newly dating then!) were traveling with a short term team… I was happy to find more westerners whom I could relate with, and together we enjoyed gallivanting around the streets of Tianjin for several weeks. What great times we had!! Our friendship has only grown, and I count myself SO BLESSED to call them friends. When I was back in Indiana visiting recently, they are the ones who housed me for most of my 2 week stay. Emma gave up her room for me, they fed me, drove me EVERYWHERE, had a super great welcome basket on my bed when I arrived, made sure I had enough down time to do my treatments, and were pretty much all around AWESOME the entire time. They are some of the most giving and thoughtful people around, and I LOVE THEM SOOOO STINKIN’ MUCH!!! I thank God for them and their incredible friendship all the time. (And I think they thank God that I’M still around, because based on the statistics I was given, I should’ve been long gone! Lol)
In the nearly 5 years that I have lived in this isolating small town, not one of my friends has come to visit. It has been very hard going through this lonely season of my life, and not having friends around. It seems I always have to be the one to make the traveling effort if I want to see anyone, and given my situation that isn’t always easy… so it was definitely refreshing that someone came to see ME this time!! It’s so wonderful to have friends here to see where I live — and also just in time to celebrate my birthday! Tonight they treated me to Olive Garden, and we celebrated 36 healthy years (two days early)!!! Thanks for coming to see me Paul, Becca, Emma & Jacobe! I LOVE YOU :) Thank God for THIRTY-SIX glorious years!! And doc says I still only have mild lung disease…
